When opening a file in dms, get an error message and cannot insert an image

When I open a pdf file in dms, I get an error message that says "dms has encountered a program erro. Try closing and restarting dms." I have done that with no change. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program with no change. I can "close" the error and the pdf file will open and I seem to have full functionality of dms except to add an image to the pdf file. (Which I did use a great deal!) Has anyone else found had this problem?
