Error message for EIN# on NYS form, no prob. with Fed. form. Error message on state form says not correct format.

Using Online payroll, when try to fill out NY state forms, keep getting error message - format of the EIN # is incorrect. The EIN# is correct as written by NYS, tried w/dashes, w/o dashes nothing works etc. What is the problem. Fed form no prob.
