Educator Expense Deduction

Hello,I recently e-filed a 1040 on which the client was claiming $250 for the educator expense deduction on line 23. I received the error code 0357 "If Archer MSA Deduction is significant, and Line 23 Indicator equals "B" or is blank, then form 8853 must be attached." Did ProSeries not update the form to take the deduction? I read that the deduction was extended through 2007. Let me know if there is a way to fix this. Thanks!

The IRS is not accepting these returns until 2/3. I would suggest waiting until 2/5 before e-filing them.

The error is probablly due to the fact, that the IRS has not yet completed their update to their system to receive these particular returns yet. According to the information stated when check the return errors, these returns can not be e-filed until February 3, 2006. This also includes any returns with the deductions of the State and Local General Sales Tax, Higher Education Tuition and Fees Deduction.

You can go to Proseries website to find this information.

Good Luck!

If the educator expense is the only one, and there is no MSA deduction, then the program prints an "E" next to the box on page 1. The "B" is for both Educator and MSA.

Unfortunately, the software is probably not ready until 2/3.
