When we have a rejected return because of a dependents name and SSN, can we call customer support to find out which dependent it is and if it is the name or SSN that is not matching? If so, what number do we dial? I have tried to call customer support on two occasions and each time I was on hold for over 20 minutes, and each time I just gave up. Can anyone help me?

EROs can call the IRS e-file Help Desk at 1-866-255-0654 and they can help you.

It's option 1 then option 1 then option 2. Have the primary social security number ready. Good luck!

The IRS ACK will specify which lines are causing the reject, although the information doesn't exactly jump out at you. If you read the IRS ACK carefully, it will indicate which dependent's name and SSN are causing the reject but specifying which lines are producing the mismatch.

This is true for most returns, but if there are more than 4 dependents it will not indicate which dependent is causing the problem.
