DMS MS Word Saving Problem

Lacerte

When opening a MS Word document from DMS the file name changes to one beginning with "~". When I close the file, DMS has nor record of the file that changed. Why is this happening?

Which versions of DMS and Word, and where do you keep the database?

We use the latest version of DMS, MS Word 2003, and we keep the database on a server.

What is the extension on the Word doc? If its .docx or .docm the document was created with Word 2007. You may need the compatibility pack for Office 2007 to open these docs with Office 2003.

This usually happens when DMS loses track of the local cached copy (located at "C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Local\Temp\DMSTemp\Edit" in Vista or a similar location [under program files if I recall] in XP,) looses its connection to the database on the server, or occasionally just feels like it. Hopefully this is not happening every time, but there must be a glitch somewhere along the line if you are seeing the temp file ("~" named) in DMS. I would start by reinstalling DMS and checking the permissions for the local user and on the server at the database location to make sure there isn't a random bug cropping up as a result.
