Want some input of how people got started in their own accounting business. How did you market the company? Did you go door to door, mailings, etc? Any input would be great.

Number 1 is network. Go to your local chamber of commerce and join it. Go to ALL the people you know and tell them you are starting your "whatever" business, and what you do. Ask them if they could give you several names of other people that you can contact about your business. If they will do that, then go see those people too, tell them about you and your business, and ask them if they can give you some names, etc. etc. Some of the people you are talking to will need your help, and if they believe you can help them, they will hire you.
Mailings are expensive and low response, door-to-door cold-calling is tough and low-success as well.

Thanks for the advice. I believe I am on the right track. Everything you have said I am already doing. Although I have been doing some brochure mailings on top of everything and got some leads.
