Rejoinder to "How to start an online bookkeeping business?"

Thanks for the quick response regarding my query on "How to start an online bookkeeping business. However, since my question was transferred to the Accounting/Journal Entries category, I realized that my question was quite vague, sorry, my fault. Please allow me to be more explicit with my question. For starters, I came across this ad posted by a guy who's way behind his bookkeeping. In fact he mentioned that his receipts are far way back up to 2005. So as a practicing accountant here in the Philippines,(which I mainly do at home through the use of my computer), I am wondering if it's possible for me to offer my services to a US national. If the answer is yes, here are my initial concerns:1. How will I process his doents? Should I advise him to scan his sales & expense invoices, payroll, etc. and send them to me by e-mail? Or send photocopies by post?2. How much should I charge him?3. If the deal goes through, what is the best way to collect my payment?4. Since this would entail receiving a sort of compensation income, are there any IRS tax laws I should be aware of: a. Do I need to register with the IRS or any governing body for this matter? b. Should my would-be client withhold the corresponding tax from my bookkeeping fees? . Please bear with me and my questions. Thanks.

Hi Cscantoria!

Has anyone tried to answer any of your questions? I will attempt to answer them! Here goes.

1.) You could have them sent to you by email or they could send you 'copies' by mail. (Because of the long distance, I would have the client send only copies, incase something were to happen to the orginals in the mail.)

2.) For regular bookkeeping the rate varies Anywhere from $7 to &110 an hour. I guess the type of bookkeeping you will be doing for the client would depend on how much you are paid.

3.) Check in the mail, maybe with the copied documents sounds like a legitimate way to receive payment.

4.) You do not need to register with the US government, as far as, I know. You may want to learn some US tax laws though, in order to keep the books properly. Maybe some online courses or something.

I hope I was able to help you.

Thank you,

Kylie
