NACPB Membership

Hi Everyone,I'm just starting a bookkeeping business using QuickBooks Pro. A CPA friend of mine suggested I join this community and the QuickBooks ProAdvisor program to get the Accountant Edition software and Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification. He also suggested that I look into the National Association of Certified Public Bookkeepers membership and Certified Public Bookkeeper license.I just attended an online presentation with them and was quite impressed. But, before I shell out the $199 membership fee, I wanted to know if any of you are familiar with this association and if so, what are your thoughts?Peter
Hi Peter,
I joined NACPB around the first of the year when I started my public bookkeeping practice. I received my Certified Public Bookkeeper (CPB) license about one month later. I can honestly tell you that the $199 membership fee is one of the best investments I have ever made. I refer to my membership as "the gift that keeps on giving". Go for it!

Hi Peter I agree with Melissa - I believe they are still offering 10 free guidebooks with new memberships. The guidebooks alone have been worth it - they are a great resource. The seminars are pretty good as well sometimes they run over it's a lot of information and you can call and ask them questions.
I also joined NACPB several months ago and I attended their bookkeeping practice development online training during the month of May. WOW! Not only was I impressed with what I learned during the training, but the resources (benefits) you receive with your membership are FANTASTIC! If you join, make sure you join as a Professional Member so that you receive the ten free bookkeeping and accounting guidebooks.
I would definitely get the CPB license. One of the things I really like about NACPB is their emphasis on "professionalism". I really like it when I'm able to introduce myself as a "Certified Public Bookkeeper". I have some CPA and EA alliance partners I work with and they treat me as if I'm a true professional!

You've had a lot of great advice already! NACPB also has a Bookkeeping Business Conference in Las Vegas in a couple of weeks and another update conference later in the year.
You can also look into www.aipb.org -- they have a great discussion list/chat room.

Thank you for your input. I joined this morning and within minutes received my "New NACPB Professional Bookkeeper Member Welcome" email and I have already benefitted from my membership. I logged in to the Members Only section and have completed my Professional Profile to become listed in their national directories, I have submitted my Website Information Form to have them develop my website, and I have been reviewing and downloading their public bookkeeping letters, checklists, etc. I?m looking in to attending their Bookkeeping Business conference in Las Vegas and can?t wait to receive the 10 free guidebooks several of you have referred to.
It?s only been a half-hour or so but, I can see why so many of you speak so highly of them. Cheers to NACPB!
Thank you again for your comments.
Peter
Thought you might want to know that I received and have been perusing my NACPB 10 best selling bookkeeping and accounting guidebooks. These guides are quite impressive. When I used to prepare tax returns I relied quite heavily on our tax library as a reference source. These guides have become my bookkeeping reference library. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Also, I'm working on obtaining my CPB and think I can get it done in a few weeks. It's a slow time so I'm taking advantage of it and hitting the books!

Hi Peter!
My name is Edith and I just returned from Las Vegas, where the NACPB had their first annual two-day national conference on Bookkeeping Services.
I joined them back in February or March, and I can attest to those who have already said that the membership fee paid is one of the best investments.
I am just starting out in my own consulting firm, but the wealth of knowledge they offer leads into my gaining more confidence to venture out on my own and explore ways to take my consulting expertise to higher levels.
They will have another conference in November for giving us updates on the various aspects of what they are doing as well as tax laws, etc.
Good Luck - they are really good people to hook up with.
