Marketing to CPA's

Under the "grow your practice" section, Intuit has provided sample letters for use to market to CPA's for bookkeeping services. I am mailing 11 letters tomorrow offering my company's services to CPA's in my area. Has anyone else attempted this and what was the outcome? Any other suggestions on obtaining clients?

If you do mail letters, I'd recommend you also send a brief bio or resume of your qualifications. Also, letters that use a regular stamp (not postage meter) get opened more than others. Also, you might follow up a week later with a phone call and ask to meet them.

I don't use Intuit's sample letters, but I do use NACPB's CPA Alliance Partner Referral letter. Next to client referrals, I find CPAs to be my best referral source.

To consistently generate referrals from CPAs, I have found there are three rules: 1.you can't provide services the CPA provides; 2. the CPA has to be impressed by you; and 3. you have to provide referrals to the CPA. It's a give and take relationship.

If you are interested, I have permission from NACPB to email the CPA Alliance Partner Referral letter to anyone interested in receiving it. Just email me your email address and I'll email it to you directly.

Hi Ebitda23,

I'd contact your local area state CPA society chapter and see if you can attend their reception/meet and greet session which they normally have before or after the local chapter meetings. You can shake a few hands and get to know some of your local CPAs with just an afternoon's work.

I'm sure you'll find the local chapter President or Secretary very friendly and willing to help---they realize how helpful a good bookkeeper can be to a CPA practice.

Best of luck in growing your accounting business,
