How to Import QIF file - QB appears to only allow *.QBO file types.

QuickBooks Pro for Windows: 2009

If my bank is not listed in the bank downloads, how can I import a *.qif file? My bank does web connect, but the file format is not the same as quickbooks *.qbo. I "assumed" since I could download from Quicken, I would be able to download from QB. I have tried the Banking/Online Banking/Import web connect, but only get the option for *.QBO file types.

Hi hiscenter,

Thank you for posting your question on the forums. I hope to see you come back and answer a question for someone else. The files you list are Quicken files. Although QuickBooks does not import Quicken files, there are several third party programs that do convert these types of files into QuickBooks files. You can find them at the Intuit Marketplace:

http://marketplace.intuit.com/

I hope that helps!

Thanks,

Amy

I didn't find a tool that was useful. I was able to take a QDF and run the convert tool to import into QB. It is unfortunate that QB does not provide the feature to allow for importing qif or webconnect files. other than qbo files. It is also unfortunate my bank doesn't provide the QB format I need. The only reason we purchased the QB Pro was to download from the bank, but we did not think that it would not work for QB since it worked for QWIN. Live and learn to research better.

I'm sorry you could not find a program there hiscenter.

Here is a direct link to one program I know performs this:

Unfortunately, Intuit has no control over which financial institutions will offer QuickBooks downloads. I would suggest asking your bank to participate in Online Banking through QuickBooks, if they receive enough requests from their customers, they may decide to participate.

Thanks,

Amy

I am in this same situation. I find it humorous that we are asked to talk to our bank to get them to meet Quick Books 2009 standards.  I also find it very interesting that I have to pay a third party to convert an Intuit Product (qif file) to Quickbooks. When I purchased Quickbooks, I had to get approval for the money to be spent (government job) and now I have to go back for more money for a simple tool that should be handled by Intuit natively.

I find this really frustrating. Quickbooks is incredibly arrogant when it comes to this sort of thing. This has been an issue for years and years, and they have no interest in coming up with any solution. They really could care less.
