What is distinction between Vendor Name and Company Name?

Vendor Name is how QB identifies your vendor. It can be the same as the company name. But if you have similar company names you might want to identify one as "Tall Bob" and the other as "Fat Bob" in the vendor name. Since you are going to use the Vendor Name all the time to enter bills. Choose a name that you will remember.
