We’ve heard you and have some good news to share. The Intuit team is working hard to make QuickBooks Online work on Firefox and Safari in the near future. More info to come and keep an eye on qboe.com. If you’re at MacWorld, come by the Intuit booth (1402) for a sneak peak of what’s to come. Excellent! We are transitioning to Macs and this will really help!

Hi employme,
If you are running Firefox on a Windows PC, all you need to do is get the Firefox Add-on called IE TAB. This will allow you to emulate Internet Explorer through Firefox. You then download the Active-X file from QBOE and you are in business. I've been doing it this way for several years now with not problems at all. Here is the link to get IE TAB:

Hope this helps,
Mario

One of our moves toward browser independence is that we no longer use the ActiveX control. Currently, you will only receive a prompt to install the ActiveX control if you are converting a desktop file to QuikBooks Online or exporting the data from QuicBooks Online to the desktop version. We still require IE at this time but removing the ActiveX control is a step in the right direction:)

What is the timeline for Safari? Our company uses QB06 and will have to upgrade real soon. We have already upgraded all of our workstations and our Network to MAC. We would like to be able to view QB files from our acct's without having to get on a PC and the online solution seems like the answer. Does investing in QB online make sense with the hope that we will be able to use it on MAC?
Not really wanting to invest in QB Pro 09 and be stuck for another couple of years and all of the reviews and talking with my Acct, the current QB for MAC solution is subpar
What do you recommend?

Stephnie,
Do you have an update on the Mac compatibility for QBOE? The beta has to in in the third or fourth month......
Unfortunately, I do not know when QBO will be available for the Mac. I will see if I can get an update and let you know what I find:)

If you are running Mac OS-X, you can download ies4osx at the location below. I know that this works with Firefox and the IE Tab add-on. I do not know if it will work with Safari. My son runs a MAC and uses this to access QBOE.

The lack of Mac support has long been my reason for not signing up. I'm curious why a beta has been opened for Windows Firefox but not Mac Firefox. I know of no differences in the way the browser renders pages. To try out that theory, I switched my user agent to say that it's Windows instead of Mac (but still Firefox 3), I'm able to sign up, and everything seems to work fine (so far).
Looking forward to hearing information on official / beta Mac support, Stephanie.
Hello to all you avid Mac users!
It’s always exciting for me to be able to come in and give you some information that has been highly anticipated, and as many of you in this discussion know, the ability to use QuickBooks Online (QBO) on a Mac is one of those topics. While I do not have an exact delivery date, you can be assured that using QBO with Safari is going to be a reality. Also, you may have heard that we were able to demo it at MacWorld, which was really exciting!
Additionally, we’ve had some questions regarding why we started with a beta for Firefox 3.0 on Windows only, so I felt like this official statement from our Marketing team would be helpful:
We wanted to meet the most-requested needs of our existing customers. This is the first step in supporting other browsers beyond Internet Explorer. Safari is a key priority and our team is working hard to make QuickBooks Online compatible with Safari in the near future. Our customers and prospective customers have primarily asked for support for Firefox PC and Safari. Once we roll these out, we will talk to our customers to understand if support for Firefox for Mac is a key need and something we should prioritize for the future.

I really wanted to be sure to keep you informed, so I hope the above is helpful. Thanks for all your passion! Our forums wouldn’t be the same without you, so keep it coming! J

Hi, Stephanie,
When Ed (Marketing) mentions Safari, he doesn't note specifically which Safari platform he's talking about. It's available for the Mac (primary platform) and for Windows.
Presumably, they are concentrating their Safari work on the Mac version. The next time you go for an update, could you confirm that the plan is to provide a working QBO for Safari running under OS X? Also, at this point, Safari 4 may be out before they finish the initial release of the platform independent QBO. FOr the next update you post here, could you check to see if they have been working with the Safari 4 beta at all.
Thanks for your attention to this. It's been helpful to get relatively frequent updates about this.

Ooh, I hope this is released soon. I run a creative web firm and we're just about 100% Mac users. We use QB 2009 Pro for Mac and it's ok but what I would really like is for the online version to work on a Mac. We would switch the company over to that in a heartbeat because I'd like to be able to have my bookkeeper and accountant both access the same interface I do. Furthermore, being able to pull critical information from my iPhone is a HUGE plus!
The golden questions here is (and I know it's been asked), what's the time frame? I started hearing about QB Online for Mac in 2008 and still nothing. Are we looking at another year out or are we talking months? Some general time frame would allow us to at least plan around it. Thank you!
I will see if I can find out exactly which version of Safari will be supported:)

Excellent news! Thank you very much...what is the timetable for supporting Firefox & Safari?
