Assume name certificate

Do I need to register an assume name certificate in order to promote and use my business name in Texas or can I just go ahead and start advertising my business using my company name?

You need to check with the Secretary of State for Texas.  Many states require you to file a 'Registration of Fictitious Name' or something similar.
