can i manually balance my checkbook with out online banking? is there not a place for me to write checks and balance checkbook without online banking?

Yes, lots of people use QB without setting up online banking. In the chart of accounts you should create a new bank account. Then, you can write checks, make deposits, and reconcile every month.
