Reissue lost paycheck

US QuickBooks Pro for Windows : 2009

Employee lost paycheck issued in June. Do I reprint same paycheck using new number? Will this affect my payroll taxes already paid?

You can reprint it, but don't change the check date.

There is a little trick you can do:

1. Create a new regular check (not a paycheck).

2. Enter the net pay amount from the original paycheck.

3. For the Account in the detail area of the new check, enter the same checking account that appears at the top of the check.  Then record the check and bypass the helpful warning telling you what you're doing.

4. Print the check.

5. Open your check register and note that the new check has both a debit and a credit in your checking account.  This cancels the impact of the original check.

6. When you reconcile, select both the original check and the 'deposit' that results from this new check.  (And, if the new check cleared, also select this new check as cleared as you normally would.)

If this answers your question, please mark this item as solved.
