Filing a paper extension shouldn't have any effect on e-filing now (I've done a few with no problems). What do you mean by you get a mess when you try to open the file?

Sorry, I read your question again and saw the "mess" you were referring to. I am assuming you have tried the basic fixes of dowloading any updates and rebooting your computer? Can you get into any files that you have already e-filed?

Make sure that the only extension info is on the 4868, nothing on the "efile extension" portion of the info worksheet, since it was not efiled.

If you like my answer, please thank me, and then go help someone else.

Accountant Man is correct that nothing should be on the "e-file" extension portion of the worksheet
