Check Disappeared

US QuickBooks Pro for Windows : 2009

A check has disappeared. We are running QB Pro 2009 (release R8P). It was not deleted because it does not show on the Deleted/Voided trans report. It was written in September and that month has been reconciled already, but the reconciliation in QB now shows as incomplete. I have searched for it by amount, check number, name, every way possible. So I restored a backup from 3 days after the reconcilation was done and there is the check, but the reconcillation was not complete at that point. I figure the fact that the rec is not complete must be a result of the check disapearing, but can not figure out what happened to the check???

Did you search far enough back and forward in case the date was changed to 2008 or 2010?  Do you have other cash accounts was the account changed to another bank?

Not much else I can think of.
