1099 to Subcontractors? Do I need to issue these?

Are you ever required to issue a 1099-MISC to the IRS for companies you hire as subs? I will be paying large sums of money to subs this year, and I want to know if I have to report that to the IRS.

You need to issue a 1099 to anyone who provides services and you pay them $600 or more over the course of the year. However, if they are a corporation you do not need to issue them a 1099 unless they are a lawyer or provided medical services.
