Looking for the best way to handle the exclusion of inactive accounts in the Intuit Statement Writer

I usually just delete them and a warning box will remind me that I'm missing them every month. If at month end, your income per income statement doesn't tie out to current year earnings per the balance sheet, you know you are missing something. Same with the balance sheet. If it doesn't balance, you need to fix something.
