Are the penalty notices new for late filing an S-Corporation return? Never have seen this in the past. Is there relief avaialble to get out if individual filed timely...similar to partnerships in past. Thanks for any answers.

Luckily, I haven't had to deal with the issue so I haven't seen one of those notices. Does the client have any good excuses like "my dog ate the return"? Seriously though, is there a reasonable excuse for why the return was filed late? Sometimes the best you can do is write a letter pleading with the IRS using any reasonable excuse you might have and swear it will never happen again. Maybe you will get lucky and have someone compassionate at the IRS that will cut the client some slack.
