Invalid password on paystub

The instructions state that the password for an employee to retrieve an emailed paystub includes the first four letters of their last name followed by the last four digits of their social security number. 

What happens when this does not work on an employees check?  I have checked and double checked the information entered and even emailed his check to me to verify that the password information is not working.
