Importing eFile Cabinet issue to DMS

Lacerte

I used to use eFile Cabinet to store documents. Now I want them in LaCerte DMS, but there is no easy way I can find. Import feature does not work as eFile Cabinet does not use a recognizable database format.

Right now I'm moving each tax year folder into each tax client individually - waiting in between. With over 2,000 folders this is going to take a long time.

I'd like to drag the tax client folder from eFile straight into LaCerte DMS, but it only drags into a single client folder in DMS.

Suggestions?

I use DMS and was considering eFile Cabinet for beyond tax related e-storage needs. Why did you leave eFile Cabinet? Do you feel it is very limiting? not user friendly? I am VERY curious to know so I do not make a mistake and purchase it.

As for DMS, I have had to restore my database from a DMS database I backed up (using the Backup within DMS) just prior to my techie scrubbing my computer to upgrade the Operating System so essentially its as if I bought a new computer and have had to reinstall all my applications again.

I have had serious trouble with DMS recognizing the database that I backed up within DMS using their DMS backup feature. DMS on the new OS keeps saying the old DMS is unreadable. I am quite frustrated as to why it won't recognize its own backup. But tech support is good, so hopefully they will solve my problem. I have complained to DMS tech support about why they don't have an Online Backup WITHIN DMS that backs up the DMS database in their DMS format online so we we have to reinstall the DMS application, we can just download the DMS database from an online server of Lacerte. They said they will work on it and they like the idea.

You should definitely call DMS Tech support. I recall my techie saying that if you could get the database in an ISO format, then DMS could "talk" to the database. Make sure you talk to a DMS tech support person not just Tech support -- big difference.

Please let us know what you find out, and also please let me know why you left eFile Cabinet.

Thank you.

I am trying to decide which to use...DMS and Efile Cabinet. I saw your question in the Intuit Community and was wondering if you ever received and answer to your question?

Its been a while Deb since you posted in Sept. Did you get efile cabinet. I have been with them almost as soon as they started in 2007.  Of course most of it was my learning curve. They have been so good about helping me with my many problems in the early days. I'm just now getting ready to switch over to Efilecabinetonline.

It looks even easier than the original, but it depends on what you do . I only have a small tax practice of about 225 clients and don't do bookkeeping or corps, trusts, etc. Just regular things like rentals, stocks, sales , all the normal 1040 forms.  But if you're thinking about it you should check it out. They are having some sales. If you let me know if you're interested, let me know and I'll get more info for you.

Sue

Latest post

I am in the process of installing eFile Cabinet.  But having problems with my online backup software.   Something about "SQL"  they (of course) have a online backup that works with their version5 which apparently has this SQL??.   But I'll get it going this week I hope.

I also have a small office with about 1000+  1040,A.,C,D,E.  clients. As audits are increasing doing some of those also. I do appreciate you reply.

Thanks,

Debbie
