Record Retention-Does DMS delete the file?

Lacerte : 2008

Record Retention-Does DMS delete the file? If I delete a file in DMS I can still access it in Windows Explorer. It seems to me that the file is only deleted from the database listing and the actual file is not deleted. This seems like a big record retention problem because if I think I have deleted a file and it isn't deleted then I may end up keeping .pdf files around that I don't want. This could create legal problems in the future.

I am aware that DMS is not deleting the individual files from the hard disk when a client is deleted. Does it also not delete individual files from the hard disk when they are deleted one at a time? How long has DMS had this problem? From the beginning? I hope Lacerte DMS makes fixing this problem a priority.

When you delete individual files in DMS, they go to the Deleted Items folder and are still on the disk at this point. To remove the file from the disk, go into Deleted Items folder and remove it from there. Once the individual file is cleared from Deleted Items, it will no longer be on the disk.
