This issue may be caused by corruption within the temporary storage file that is created when scanning. Try the following steps. If you still encounter issues, then contact ProSeries support for further assistance.

1. Close the DMS program.

2. Click the Windows Start button and select Run.

3. Type %TEMP% in the Open field and click OK.

4. Highlight the DMSTEMP folder and press the Delete button on the keyboard.

5. Open DMS and scan the document again.

[6 months later]  Is it only in the DMS that a black line appears?  If it's showing up no matter what software is scanned, it might be material-buildup on the scanning plates in the scanner. (sorry if this is an obvious answer, but it's often overlooked!)

Check your scanner's manual for proper cleaning procedures; in my experience I just borrow the cleaning-cloth from the nearest 'four-eyes and use that to gently wipe the glass plate strips (fujitsu fi-6130).  Note: do this at your own risk: not liable for any damage to scanner as a result.
