QuickBooks for MAC limitations on Profit and Loss by Class filtered by subclass? I was at a client on QB for MAC and we set up Classes and subclasses, then ran P&L by Class reports, filtered by a Parent Class and subclasses. Totals on the P&L by Class (all classes) and Total on the P&L by Class (filtered to 1 Class w/subclasses) matched, until you magnify an expense row and run detailed report, then other class transactions, not the Filtered class, show up on the detailed report and the $$ amounts are different. After 2 QB tech support calls, finally with a MAC specialist, we all concluded that this issue is either a "bug" or a problem that should be addressed and fixed for MAC users. Please let me know if anyone has also uncovered this same problem. Thank you,

mea, did you start this discussion in the QuickBooks for Mac forum? I didn't see a subscription email, so I'm guessing you might have started it elsewhere.

What version of QuickBooks for Mac is your client using, and what release of that version?

Debi,

I'm not sure where i started discussion, but pretty sure it was filtered down to MAC. I believe the version was 2007 and it was verified by QB tech support that client had latest release. QB tech support MAC specialist also checked to see if upgrading to 2009 would make any difference, and answer is no. I think this issue is important enough that Intuit should consider fixing it.

Later this weekend (no time today), I'll try to experiment with this in QB 2009 for Mac using a sample company file. If I see the same behavior, I'll see if maybe one of the Intuit people who volunteer here (when they have time) can shed some light on it.

By the way, it's "Mac," not "MAC." ;-)

mea, I apologize for never getting to that experiment. When looking in the Help documentation because of another post today I discovered the following under "Creating reports about your budget":

  • If you set up budget items for class only, "Use the Profit & Loss Budget vs. Actual By Job report. Choose either a date value (like month) or Total Only from the Columns list on the report buttonbar. Then click Customize and choose Class from the Row Axis list."
  • If you set up budget items for class and accounts, "Use the Profit & Loss Budget vs. Actual report. Choose Class from the Columns list on the report buttonbar, and then click Customize and choose Accounts from the Row Axis list."

I have no idea whether that information will help.

Hi Debi,

Thank you for tryng, but no, this latest info does not apply or resolve what I believe to be a "bug" in the MAC version of QuickBooks.  Please let me know if any resolution show up in future updates.

Thank you,

mea
