I am an attorney. I would like to enter, for each fee check I receive to be dep , the SOURCE of the fee . For instance, if the fee was earned in a case referred by atty A, I would like to indicate that so I can later RUN A REPORT for each source.
Try one of these -
Create customer types - one for each referral source. . .and attach the customer type to the customer field. This will flow to all entries using the customer name and you can run reports by that parameter.
OR (if you are using Customer Type for something else)
Use the sales rep feature for this - setup one for each referral source and attach the sales rep to each sales receipt or invoice. You can also attach the sales rep to the customer info, but I don't think it will report on that rep field unless you are using the correct forms (sales receipts or invoices).
Run a couple of tests and see which gives you the best results.
