How do I unlock a client file?
I tried to open a client file I was working on a few days ago. I get a message that says the file is locked by another user, and the file will not open. I am the only user. How do i unlock the file?

I actually did search and had found this thread. It did not solve the problem. So if you have any other ideas........


You have to make sure you delete the file starts with ~ or $ then go back in to access the file or it will not work
1) have everyone get out of the system
(2) go to the 08DATA Directory which is the data files for all the clients
(3) delete the file that either starts with ~ or $ and make sure it is the file, the ~ or $ mean it is in use, You should then be able to go to the file through Pro Series and Open it up

Have all users completely exit ProSeries.
Go to the Start menu, select Programs, and then select Windows Explorer.
Go to the Tools menu and select Folder Options.
Select the View tab in the Folder Options dialog box.
Under Hidden files and folders in the Files and Folders area, make sure the Show hidden files and folders option is selected. If the Do not show hidden files and folders option is selected, select the Show hidden files and folders option.
Click Apply, then click OK.
Locate the directory where your client files are stored. The default is C:\PROWIN08\08DATA (standalone) or X:\PROSERIES\PRONET08\08DATA where X represents F or greater (network).
Double-click on the 08DATA directory. You should see files that begin with a tilde (~) and/or a dollar sign ($).
Delete all files that begin with one of with these two characters.
Exit Windows Explorer.
Open your ProSeries program and try opening the client file again.

OK, I figured it out. In windows explorer i copied the file in question to another folder. Then deleted the original file. I opened the file from within ProSeries. It opened fine. Then I saved it back to the original location, closed the client, and exited ProSeries. When I tried to open the client file again I got the same message that it was locked by another user. I closed out of everything again and deleted the file again. Next I renamed the copy of the file, opened it in ProSeries, and saved it to the original folder. I closed out of all programs. Went back into ProSeries and have opened the file several times now. All seems well. Thanks for the ideas Tilt.............
