Printing Problems in Shipping Manager with Windows 7

US QuickBooks Pro for Windows : 2009

I just installed Windows 7 and I am unable to print any shipping labels within Shipping Manager in QuickBooks 2009.  When I try to print to my Zebra 2844 --- ::{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}\::{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D}\Zebra --- I cannot get anything to print and instead Shipping Manager states:

Unable to print label: Thermal printer

"::{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}\::{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D}\Zebra" was not found.

It does the same thing for any printer within Shipping Manager I select except the printer name changes depending on the printer I selected.  HELP... I can't print ANY shipping labels!  I have no problems printing anywhere else within QuickBooks.

It seems like Quickbook 2010 doesn't have this issue.  And they are not going to fix the printer problem under shipping manager for any other version of quickkbook 2009 and below..it sucks..

I have the same problem... just another way to force us to upgrade AGAIN!   This is crap!  I went through the same thing last year with some other issue... "Oh 2008 doesn't have that issue... you'll need to upgrade to 2009!"  BS!  I'm done!  Hello Microsoft Accounting or something else!

We just upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate and installed QB Premier Manufacturing and Wholesale 2009 (3 users) Edition on 2 of our computers. None is able to print from Shipping Manager and we have exactly the same message.

We think this is an issue with QB not being fully compatible with Windows 7.

Any help will highly be appreciated, but since the first post is more than 2 months old and no QB technician has even replied to it by now, we do not believe we should expect any help from QB.

Here is the solution no need to upgrade I confirm this works and have done this to help many users.
First you will need to.

1. Click on Computer or on older systems it is my computer then click on C: drive.

2.Click Users then under users you will see all the different users for your computer, Pick your name the one you log into as a user (The one you installed QuickBooks under). Now when here you will need to press ALT + F this will give you a new tab across the top( File Edit Tools View Help) Click on tools then click folder options this will bring up a box with tabs across the top ( General View Search) click view then you see check circles check the circle that states show hidden files, folders and drives then click apply at the bottom.

3. After you make the hidden file and folders available you will see AppData click on AppData (It will be located under the user file you are currently in).

4. Then Click on Roaming, under Roaming you will find Intuit click on Intuit then click on shipping manager then click on Shipping Manager v4.

5. Under Shipping Manager v4 you will see to different shipping note pad files one is for Fedex and one is for UPS.

Warning!!! (before you edit this file or any other file always make a back up so click on the file right click and click copy now go to the desktop and find a blank area and right click go to new then click folder this will make a new folder on the desktop name it whatever you like after you do this then click on the new folder and paste the file from the shipping manager in it (the one I had you copy) this give you a unedited copy of the file just in case you have a problem.
Now pick whatever shipping company you are using right click and tell it open with notepad you will then see something like this:
There is more but I just added the important stuff.

<PRINTERTYPE>fpLaser</PRINTERTYPE>::{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}\::{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D}\Zebra
<PRINTERNAME></PRINTERNAME>::{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}\::{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D}\Zebra

<ROTATERASTERLABEL>False</ROTATERASTERLABEL>
<LABELDPI>0</LABELDPI>
<REVERSEPRINT>False</REVERSEPRINT>
<YOFFSET>0</YOFFSET>

All you have to do is where you see ::{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}\::{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D}\Zebra

Take out the ::{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}\::{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D}\

And leave your printer name there without the ::{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}\::{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D}\Zebra (printer name here is ZEBRA)

It will look like this when you are done:
<PRINTERNAME></PRINTERNAME>Zebra
or
<PRINTERNAME></PRINTERNAME>Dell3110cnlaser
Take out the:
::{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}\::{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D}\

It should only be in two places Printer Name and Printer Type if it is anywhere else take it out and leave just the printer.
After you have done this click on file save and then close it and then go back to make sure it saved.

This works I have done this many times. I thought I would just make this so it could help someone.
Brian

The official answer is: Windows7 is supported in QB 2010 and higher only.

The workarounds mentioned are probably the only way to handle pre-2010 versions.

I tried Geeksquads method and edited the .ini file. I saved the changes but when I went back to Ship Manager the original garbage was there. When opening the .ini file it reverted back to it's original state.

Rlang,

Most likely reverted back because you may not have saved the changes, and just closed without saving. Make sure you do not have quick books open in the background also.

I tried this fix and for some reason QB keeps writing over my changes and all the code below gets saved right back into the notepad file.  Idea how to prevent this?

Hi All,

Make sure that the changes will be saved. Edit the .ini file save the changes. Close the notepad and re-open to check that the changes made took effect. And make sure to save the edited file to the original location.

computer\c:\users\users (pick your name the one you log into as a user)\appdata\roaming\intuit\shipping managerv4

look for the notepad files. One is for fedex and the other one is for UPS.

Thank you.

Thank you, Geeksquad!!!

Your suggestion worked perfectly!

 I'm printing labels now!

Just bought a new computer with windows 7.

What I noticed is you have to select the printer you want to use on the shipping menu, then shut down QB.

Go and make the changes as Geeksquad has said.  Then open QB again.  All is working normally.

Thanks again

Duane.
