Import warning
Why do I get the following warning when I import an iif file? You cannot associate an item with sales tax payable, undeposited funds, accounts receivable, accounts payable, or non-posting accounts.

The solution
That means you are using an new item, or importing a new item that uses one of these accounts, but is of the wrong item type. For example, if you casually use your sales tax account on a detail line of a transaction, with an Item that doesn't yet exist in the company, then QB will try to auto-create the item using the default item type. Then you'll get the message as the sales tax account is disallowed for that item type.
