990

I am preparing a 990 Ez, and the figures are similar to last year. This year the program is telling me to file a 990T. Have guidelines changed? In particular the firm collected $27,000 in membership dues and they are being taxed on the NYS return.

Check your screen where you inputted the member dues. The screen is broken into three sections. The first section is for 990-T income, the second section is excluded income, and the third section is related income. Each of the three sections has a line for member dues. It may be that the dues are entered in the first section, but they need to be in the third section.

Yes, the 990 was overhauled this year. Not sure about NYS. You may want to check in the who must file areas, etc. I believe the new form instructions are available at www.irs.gov.

I had a similar problem - my client did not require a 990-T, but the software was generating one. I called Lacerte. Turns out on screen 1 I was indicating (under Return Info) a 990-T Return Type. I changed to N/A and the all zeros 990-T stopped showing up.
