overriding default billing rate when preparing an invoice
How Do I override default billing rates when preparing an invoice?
How Do I override default billing rates when preparing an invoice?

Just replace the amount that comes up with the new amount you'd like to use. If you want to edit the amount permanently, go to the Customer menu, choose Product/Services list, select that item in the list then click the edit button button to make the change.

Stacy - thank you. First you explain things complerely and you explain them in terms a non accountant can understand, very much unlike Intuit. Thank you.
Thank you, Stacyquickbooks. This is OK but is there a way to see how QB calculated the Amount that is presented without having to click on the line item hyperlink to see the calculation? And if the calculation is wrong, say that it considered the purchase price instead of a sale price, is there a way to correct the rate without having to go to each bill item or time entry? The QB programs (and other accounting packages) always present an screen invoice with Quantity, Rate and Amount columns, and if qty or rate are wrong it can be corrected right then. QB online does not (by default) present a rate column on the screen. Can the column be added by customization?

The rate is whatever you've set up in your Product/Services List, so if you need to adjust it for each invoice, my advice would be remove any default sales price. I've never encountered a situation where QB populated an item price on an invoice with anything other that what the default amount to which the item has been set.
In QB Online Edition, you generally can't assign costs (yet) to specific customers, so I'm not sure exactly what you're attempting to do here, I apologize...

STACY: So, is it correct that for Quickbooks 2010 for the Mac, you can only assign billing rates to service items and not to the employee(s)? Thanks
