To Marge611 and LauraD re: Partial Charges Thread

In my own defense, about half of the questions reaching the ProSeries Forum over the past week or two have been QuickBooks questions, not ProSeries questions. The "regulars" over here are getting just a little weary of having to wade through piles of misdirected posts to find the ones we can help with. It's a colossal waste of time. I think we have a right to expect that questioners at least take the time and care to make sure they are directing their posts to the correct forum
I've answered over 2000 ProSeries questions this tax season, and gotten nothing for it - no clients, no payment, not even a stinking discount on my ProSeries software. I do it for two reasons. First, I enjoy it. Second, I'm concerned about the ability of many professional tax preparers out there who display a serious lack of basic tax knowledge. IOW, I'm trying to upgrade the quality of our products as a profession. I don't even use the forum to solicit business, as LauraD does. So if I get a little testy when folks who never contribute a single answer complain about their treatment, get over yourselves. I'm not a nasty person, or I wouldn't be here doing this in the first place.
If they thought those posts were nasty, they must be living quite a sheltered life. It was nice of Peter to also put in a little blurb and take a direct shot at Mt Juliet and an indirect shot at any one who has a little sense of humor. I think he is wearing his hat too tight again.

Archie, I am sure Marge 611 and Laura D are not giving out -1 points. They are brand new to the forum. Anyone who views the question can give -1 points to answers by marking the rating -.
Each viewer is limited to only giving one - rating per question. I gave a rating of -1. Being funny can be a paradox and at the same time something is funny, it can also be childish or offensive. I rated minus, because I thought it was unprofessional and could be taken the wrong way and make the person asking the question feel like never ever using the Intuit Community again. (I gave the-1 pt, because an Accountant Community All Star, who represents ProSeries and the Intuit Community, is having fun with Marge 611 and Laura D, rather than giving a professional answer.)
That LauraD is quite the fire cracker ------ brand new to the community and already has amassed enough points to make it to the leaderboard as number 9 all time and number 7 this week. She's been a busy bee!
Peterhawaii, I stand by what I wrote above. We're supposedly dealing with adults, for crying out loud. I agree that there does seem to be some sort of systemic problem in getting posts routed correctly.

I believe the QB users are just as much in need of answers as tax preparers are. When
they ask their questions in the PS forum, they will not get the answers.
I have answered tax questions, but my main use of the PS forum is to see what I need to
learn. Even with 41 years professional tax preparation, some of the questions pertain to
issues I have never encountered, which have not been included in my continuing
education, or which I do not recall in sufficient detail. These questions tell me what to research.

IRMN, why do you say she's brand new to the community?

Charlotte, I've been doing this for 35 years myself, and just this morning, on the Lacerte board, I was made of a fairly significant tax rule regarding passive losses that I had never heard of. Embarrassing, is what it was. I commented to Phoebe that we should get CPE credit for hanging out here.
I definitely do not know everything and am willing to admit it and I agree with ArchieLeach. Even some of the Quick Books questions like "what do I do with excess cash" lead me to believe that the individuals do not even know how to make journal entries. There are also those individuals who are in our Tax Forum with out namimg names continually mark " abuse" on my responses even those which are serious replies and mark continually -1 and I get e-mails from Intuit naming the individual who lives in the Pacific Ocean on some Islands, which does not really bother me, as back in February and March the same individual continually begged for 10 points a question.I come into the forum not knowing everything and learn a lot contrary to some others, and I dont mean you Archie or you IRMN. I even posted one question where I made the comment that I was asked a question by an associate (who happened to be an Agent with the Nashville IRS Office) regarding e-filing a certain form (Form 2848) and was told to "Read the Instructions"Generally I appreciate everyones efforts who participate in our Forum and Thank You ArchieLeach

Archie - I didn't say LauraD was new, Peter did. I made mention to it because Peter tends to ramble sometimes without having all of the facts straight.
You know, the one thing that really bugs me about Peter's comments is somehow he has appointed himself as the moral policeman of who can say what on this forum. He inferred that poor Marge might be scarred for life because of a little comment that was made in jest. I've seen a few of his comments that have been less than kind and I will close with a famous Peterhawaii quote made on 1/31/09 -
"Tax Master you gave an absolutely ridiculous answer"
so IRMN does this mean that him and Tax Master are "twins"?????
Let's not drag TaxMaster's good name into this:)
ok I agree Tax Master is a good source of excellant information and was poluted by the response I gave and should in no way be associated with the other person.
MJ, may I suggest that your next year's vacation to Honolulu be shifted to Texas or NJ? You might want to avoid the hurricane season out there. ;-)
I will make sure I detour my vacation and possibly go to Dollywood so I can see Dolly Parton
You guys are certifiable. ;-)
We already are certified.................................Oh, wait, maybe you meant that in another way.
My wife gave me a gag gift for my 60th birthday, a nicely-made self-inking rubber stamp that says:
CHARLES P. WARMAN
CERTIFIABLE PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT
[address]
You'd be amazed at how much I use the thing. I sometimes even put it on IRS correspondence to see if anyone notices. So far, no one has.
You are lucky my wife just "gagged" when she saw me this morning

I think the problem of people, expecially new people using the Intuit Community, is there is no instructions on basic things to do, such as picking your forum or even updating the Intuit Community program to be able to use Edit. There is a place for new users to look at which goes over some of the things but it is silent on the importance of navigating to the correct forum and in my mind is lacking in some of the how tos and basics on using the forum.
I would suggest that there be a warning in the program when the Intuit Community is entered telling people there program might not be updated and to sign out and sign in.
I would also suggest the program be reviewed to see that it is more user friendly insending people to the right forum and giving out helpful pointers. I would think the problem of questions going to wrong forums is much bigger than just QB questions going to ProSeries in error.
