If the data on the CD is .qbw, this is the file.
Do this:
Open QuickBooks.
File>Open or restore company file. Find the file on the CD drive. Open that. Then, File>Save a copy or backup. Back it up to your hard drive.
Then, go to File>Open or restore company file and select restore backup. Find the backup that you just created.
Then, when it asks for save in location, choose your hard drive. (I create a folder in My Documents called QuickBooks and store my file there)
Then, you will have your file on your hard drive.

LauraD - Thank you for your help. However since I posted my question, my CD Drive is now getting jammed!!! This has definitely not been my week!! My laptop crashed and so I had to drag out my old Desk Top thinking I could get back into business and now the drive in jammed!!! Guess its a sign for me to bite the bullet and buy a brand new computer!!! Right before the holidays (UUUGGGHH) I will try your suggestion once I get over this obstacle. Thanks again.

Hi LauraD:
You gave me some advice last week on how to restore my Quickbooks from a CD and then I had a problem with my CD drive jamming. Well, I now got a new drive installed and I tried to do what you listed but I don't think I am doing it right. I'm sorry to ask you this but would there be any way that you could "walk me through this" via telephone? I am more of a "Hands-on" learner and perhaps that might work. If you don't mind doing that I can either send you my number or you can send me yours. I am in California and on Pacific Standard Time. Thank you.

Contact me through my website (see below), if you want 'hands-on help'.

I like to copy the files from the storage media onto my hard drive, since the restore function will work faster from the hard drive than the storage device. Try that.
