Against The Odds
Growing my business
I am a prime example of making your dream come true against the odds of single mothers having so many responsibilities that they can’t attain their dreams, especially if they are underprivileged, underemployed, and under the poverty level. As a displaced mother, raising two teenage children by myself, my business kept us together and successful. I established the business while on welfare and food stamps. With no money for investing I worked the business 24 hours, 7 days a week, for two years, to make ends meet. We couldn't afford any marketing or advertising. We had to rely on customers’ referrals. Customer satisfaction was the only goal. Our business was successful on 100% referrals, as it is today. I soon found that having my children lend a hand not only helped us be successful but kept my children out of trouble. Right now my children are all successful entrepreneurs. My son has a car dealership. My daughter is a marketer and promoter. Sunshine Secretarial Services is almost 25 years old and I am still helping others realize that their dreams are attainable. I employ contractors who aid me with getting the work done. I am mentoring Atlanta’s teenagers and adults, as well as training entrepreneurs with Business Startup, Planning, and Office Systems. I believe that one person can make a difference. My mission is to change the world “one person at a time.” That’s how I am contributing to “The Change.” It’s Time for a Change, what are you doing?
