Mid-Life Change

Launching my business

I have been employeed by a newspaper for over 25 years. Same company. It has been truly amazing. I worked in production as a pressman. It has been an amazing career. I always wanted to be a printer. I have an AA in Priniting Technology and hoped I would retire from the newspaper I work at.

As many people know, newspapers are in finnancial decline. My place of work is no different. In the last 7 years, they have cut my pay package close to 35%. I still am able to make my bills, however much else has been curtailed.

Rather then wait to the end of the line at the paper, I went back to school part time for accounting. Most of my Printing degree did not transfer, so it is like starting over. I hope to transfer to ASU in about a year, leave the paper and finish full time. (Before I get too old). Presently I am in honors, have a 4.0 average and received an accounting and a math scholorship to help pay for my education.

I used to be Secretary/Treasurer for my labor organization at work. I enjoyed the accounting work, however found the politics a bit annoying. But it was a valuable lesson in dealing with people.
