What Inspired My Business
I used to direct an Employer Assistance Center for a non-profit agency and I counseled new or struggling business owners there. I also taught accounting, computer programming, and business management classes at a local college. I hated grading papers so I eventually quit teaching. Then the non-profit agency where I volunteered folded due to budget cuts. This consulting work I do now as my time permits is an enjoyable way for me to continue tutoring small business owners as a side line to my regular business. It has evolved from the non-profit agency's important work that I decided to continue forward by myself, and my experiences gained in a little tax practice that I owned for six years.

Most Unusual Client or Client Story
I own two businesses, this one and a specialty pressure washer firm - my family's bread and butter job. The contractor industry my other firm operates in is responsible for much needless water pollution and restaurant grease fires in our service region. Worse my industry is locked inside a heavy low-ball bidding war fueled by shyster contractors. I started advocating with governmental officials for public safety awareness and their enhanced supervision of my industry and/or the rogue restaurant operators. I campaigned so hard with the municipal building code enforcement officials for improved fire prevention, that the NYS Department of State has now asked me to develop an online how-to-inspect a restaurant tutorial for them. In a weird twist, the most important client for Heal Thy Biz Online - is this state government agency. Ironically, it is also the one major client that doesn't pay me anything to develop tutorials for - everything I do for them has to be donated right now. I'm happy to donate the programming work because this particular client is also the single biggest key for my primary business - A-quipment Repairs & The Hood Cleaners LLC - to gain a way to change our firm's competitive industry environment, bringing it up to more responsible business operations amongst my competitors and build my primary firm the opportunity to earn a suitable yet honorable living which provides for my family.

Recent Business Surprise
I entered Intuit's Workplace Partner Platform software developer contest. I couldn't get the competition program entry that I had in mind to work so I ended up submitting the tutorial framework engine -a middleware app which did work - instead of an actual tutorial at the last minute. I was shocked when I placed among the top 10 finalists in Intuit's Independent developer contest. The middle ware application I ended up submitting as my contest entry was a total accident, but it is now evolving into a completely new, software as a service Flex/QuickBase product line for my firm, one that several potential financial recovery consulting engagement clients have expressed an interest in utilizing.

Other Problem, Believability. No one believed that a lowly hood cleaning subcontractor would know anything about accounting and financial recovery intervention, but this one does.

Our Solution
Split up my primary business into two separate entities last May. Heal Thy Biz Online now has its own website, business name, product line, and marketing strategy. We tell people that Heal Thy Biz Online is our partnering firm in a community service effort we are involved in.
