About Pet Generation

Business Description
Pet Generation is striving to be a positive and powerful influence in the pet industry by creating innovative and unusual toys and products for dogs and everyone who is PROUD TO BE PART OF THE PET GENERATION!

Years in Business
Two wild years!
Top Selling Product or Service
The "Rippys" -- dog toys MADE to be rrrripped apart (and you can put them back together!). Let 'em rip!!!

What Inspired My Business
I have a passion for inventing and a passion for animals -- but it was when I sewed my hundredth ripped dog toy back together for my dogs that I was inspired to combine my passions and solve the "ripped-dog-toy dilemma"!

Most Unusual Client or Client Story
At our first trade show, a buyer's son turned the head, arms, and legs backward on a Rippy...the surprising result was that the tail became, ahem, "something else" -- whereby the son exclaimed for all to hear..."LOOK!". I have never been so embarrassed -- this design "feature" had not occurred to me! Thank goodness dogs only rip these toys apart, and do not reassemble them (yet)!

Recent Business Surprise
A major, well known company recently showed interest in the concept embodied by my trademarked company name, Pet Generation. I am overjoyed at the growing embracement of the idea of a "pet generation" who is wholeheartedly dedicated to their pets (by the way, trademark your names, friends!!!).

Fun Facts About Rippysgirl

Personal Bio
I am a native southern California girl. I grew up in Palos Verdes and graduated from UCLA with a degree in Communications. I've been a diamond grader, an esthetician, a landlord, and a real estate agent -- but it wasn't until I started my own business that I truly found myself. And now my joy is shared with a wonderful husband and two precious center-of-my-world daughters, and of course ...two beloved dogs.

Coolest Personal Item on My Desk
A really slobbery and tested prototype for my next dog toy. I have been developing it for years and it's finally ready! If I receive the grant I'll be able to introduce it with two goals: make dogs happy and donate some proceeds to homeless animals.

Most Challenging Business Obstacle

Business Challenge
Work and Family Balance, We live near Palm Springs, CA, where it gets to be over 120 degrees HOT in the summer. My husband and daughters want to spend summers at with family near the beach, but my office is here! I don't want to make them stay with me and endure the heat, but I can't leave my business. I was agonizing over balancing work and family...but with my husband unemployed, I felt I didn't have a choice.

Our Solution
Aha...this is when it hit me that with wireless internet to go ANYWHERE, and internet fax to receive orders from my sales reps ANYWHERE, Quickbooks for invoicing (and sending the invoice directly to my customer) and merchant account needs (credit cards could be charged ANYWHERE -- both for my wholesale stores, and for my own webstore), and a fulfillment center -- I could do business.... ANYWHERE! Quickbooks allowed me to be with my family, it kept us together...what greater gift is there than that? What a wonderful solution!
