Working For Others and Myself
Growing my business
I work for a general contractor and have worked for the company since 2005. The company has been using QuickBooks every since I was hired and it has helped to streamline everything from our books to the way we actually run the company.
I also work for myself doing a few individual tax returns, some bookkeeping, and I also run my own Tupperware business. Out of all of these the Tupperware business is the most fun; however, my full time job with the general contractor is what pays the bills.
For all the various things I have my hands in I use QuickBooks to keep track of everything. I even set up QuickBooks for the PTSO I volunteered for during the last five years. (I have since passed that on to a new volunteer.)
I look forward to expanding my Tupperware business as this is what gives me the most pleasure.

Advice for others
I would definately advise people to use QuickBooks. However, if you are not familiar with accounting make sure that you go through the tutorials. They are very helpful.
Also, keep in mind that setting up QuickBooks correctly before doing any data entry will save you headaches later. One key thing I always suggest is that you turn on the option for account numbers when you are setting up your chart of accounts. This will save you and your accountant a lot of time and frustration at the end of the year.
The other thing that setting up QuickBooks correctly will do is save you money at the end of the year while having your taxes processed. Whoever processes your taxes will spend less time on your transactions and will therefore not be able to charge you a ton of money for their time.
