life after 60
Launching my business
I was laid off my job of 3 years working for an auto transport broker as a dispatcher. This was a field that was totally new to me so I struggled learning it. Just about the time I was getting comfortable with it, the recession hit & I got laid off. I was 60 years old, wasn't really comfortable with computers & knew nothing about owning my own business or accounting. I had two options, find a menial job to pay bills & live frugally for 2 years until I could take early retirement or start my own business. I opted for the second. With a lot of help & encouragement from friends (& bank) I started my own Auto Transport Broker business. I don't know what I would have done without Quick-books online. I even figured out how to invoice my customers & pay the transport companies. Don't get me wrong, I have had some mis-steps, many long hours & some tears, but I am making a living, paying my bills & taxes, & even have a little left over each month. I am pretty sure that I am doing ok. You could never have convinced me ten or even 5 years ago that this is what my senior years would look like.
Advice for others
If you can think it & are dedicated to helping yourself, you can do it.
