Advice for others

If you are starting a business and are unsure about setting up your books, spend the money and hire a professional to help. Have monthly or quarterly reviews done to make sure you are on the right track. It will be money well spent. Having an unskilled person doing your bookkeeping will probably cost you more money in clean-up from your tax preparer. Just because they have taken a QuickBooks class doesn't make them a good, qualified bookkeeper.

Business owners, if you or a family member is "keeping the books", stay as up to date as possible. If you cannot keep your information up to date in a timely manner, spend the money and hire a professional bookkeeper.

Employees, if you are working as a bookkeeper, do the best job you possibly can for your employer. If you need help, ask for it. Your job will be much easier, and your employer will appreciate it!
