What a great product! I appreciate a business idea that is not only "green" and incredibly useful, but a way to sustain women in other countries who support themselves and their families. I hope you win!
Great product and a wonderful idea. Good luck.
A great way to prompt change at the grass roots level, which should trigger end users to modify their collection and disposal methods to aim toward compost facilities instead of landfills, saving them money and being far more sustainable....... good job!
Lovin' the idea!
Way to go Meera! Nice editing :-) What a wonderful sustainable idea that benefits women and is good for the environment. Good luck!

Great idea. I love seeing a very old idea made new.
Fantastic concept, flawless timing. Success in business is all about those elements.
Whether you win this round or not, you two have an idea one can bank on. Finding investors should be child's play, even in this economy.
Great concept, great product. It feels yukky throwing all those disposable plates away after eating, regardless of the venue. Ban the bad stuff! Replace with Compostable Plates!
Perfect timing for a green plate. We are all being encouraged to compost much of the food we discard daily and now we will have your compostable plates to add to the garden. Great work. Marzie
Ladies, Margaret Meade would be so proud of you. She said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, commited citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." I don't know if you will win the money - you should! No matter what happens, please don't give up! Keep finding different ways to make this work. Continue to be committed and creative. Thank you from everyone on the planet!

Not a good introduction. Train sound in the background. No smooth transitions. Audio has too much background noise. I think its a good concept, just the video doesn't do it justice.
What an amazing cconcept that benefits society on so many levels. Good luck!!!
We hope you win!! Speaking for our Farmer's Market here in Salida, CO, we would love to have access to your plates both to market & to use at our market and in our homes when we have people over for meals. I will be sharing this video with others & a couple restaurants I know. Truely a GOOD IDEA! from Sweet Pea Farms
Maya and Rachel have developed an inspirational business model with a conscience: ethical, environmental, local with global impact. This is the plate of the future.

This is the only way to go to save the planet. It deserves funding
and will ultimately be successful however these two women find the funding.

It's about time there's something you can feel good about throwing away.
Great idea for all the food carts popping up around Portland.
I'm a finalist too, and just wanted to say what a great concept! I hope you are able to make it a reality and also make take-out containers so we can finally wean the restaurants off their unbiodegradable styrofoam and ban it forever! Good luck, I hope you win one of the grants!

Hello from a fellow finalist! You have such a great concept and I really believe you will go far! I love this from your story: "Look below the surface, and things may not be quite what they seem. Sometimes, 'green' products end up replacing one pollution problem with another by using harmful manufacturing and disposal processes." This is so true in the eco-fashion industry as well. Best of luck and congrats on being a finalist!

Finalist story from CompostablePlatesLLC:
How it all began
It was love at first bite when Maya came back from India last summer with simple plates made of palm leaves. The beauty of the material and the array of earth-friendly qualities were unlike anything we’d seen in disposable plates currently in use in the U.S. We quickly saw the possibilities. .
We are so excited about using compostable plates instead of ugly and eco-unfriendly foam, plastics or highly processed and water-wasting paper products that we decided to form Compostable Plates, LLC. Maya and Rachel have much to offer to such an endeavor: Maya brings her commitment to the triple bottom line business philosophy of social, environmental, and corporate responsibility, while Rachel brings her design skills and environmental idealism.
Let’s transform garbage into compost!
Our vision is to provide our community with compostable food containers that have a minimal impact on the environment. From farmer’s markets, county fairs to music festivals, every event has the same issue with its waste: a big pile of garbage. These events produce hundreds of thousands of pounds of waste that accumulate in a landfill EVERY WEEK. Our commitment is to help transform the concept of garbage.
Yes, it’s Green, but What Shade of Green?
Look below the surface, and things may not be quite what they seem. Sometimes, “green” products end up replacing one pollution problem with another by using harmful manufacturing and disposal processes. We understand that human activities will always have an impact on the planet. But we can minimize adverse effects through the entire life cycle of a product by attending to the way they are made, transported, used and disposed.
Enter, the traditional palm plates of southern India
We will import and distribute earth and people friendly disposable plates. They are made from parts of palm trees which are heat-molded to shape and cut into plates. That’s it! No harmful chemicals, no felled trees, and no complicated process to make them. We will pay rural workers in India a living wage and pay close attention to how we affect the environment. Consumers in the U.S. get a product that turns into plant food in our backyard compost piles or commercial composters. Shipping-related pollution, however, remains a concern. We will therefore donate a portion of our profits to carbon-offset programs until clean shipping alternatives are available. We hope to take a simpler path to a truly greener world with YOUR help. Thanks!
As new comers to the world of business we understand the critical importance of receiving a steady dose of practical wisdom from those with more business experience. A very interesting concept, very likely to be successfull not only in the USA, but Europe also. Good luck! Agnieszka
