Great story and great job on the video. Lots of kids will benefit if Kathy can expand her business!
Kathy is such an inspiration to everyone she meets. Her smile is infectious and matched with her sincerity, just what is needed to reach her young clientele! She inspires creativity and encourages results! I can't think of a more deserving candidate! To me, she is already a winner!
I always enjoy the baking I get from Kathy. Keep up the good work.
This video is inspiring for the fact you have never stopped being a teacher from grade school, technical training, and now with the children’s cooking classes. you say it all. "LOVE what you do, because you're going to spend a lot of time making your business a success. You might as well enjoy the ride!"
Thanks for the continued inspiration over the last 30 years.

As I watched the video and listened to my elementary school friend, it struck me how dedicated she really is to her business. It's not just a business to bring in the bucks, it's a gradual, continual learning and teaching experience. Since, Kathy has incorporated her culinary classes for the young children, she has opened up an area where children have a mentor to look up to. This speaks for itself in volumes. Patience, tolerance and a love of her craft. Good Luck Kathy! Helen Rossiter
What an inspiring story! Kathy's business is the summation of her life experiences and it has great potential for franchisees. She is very well-spoken and organized. Wish there was a Just Desserts business near me!
Good luck Kathy! We love your goodies!! I hope you win and can continue to grow your business!
DEFINITELY INSPIRING!!!! I LOVE that your mom is in the video (I teared up)--and that you focused on your culinary classes with children...I think (besides the results of your baking!) that is your forte--that you can inspire others to find the joy in cooking and baking by sharing your love for it!
GOOD LUCK!!

I loved the theme of this video and the way Kathy took us through her story of how she finally found her "true love". The message that we don't always end up where we thought we would but that we can end up in a great place is a powerful message.
Kathy: I've been following your business via Mary for years. Kudos to you for doing what you love and inspiring others to do the same. It's great to instill a love of cooking in children, so few moms have the time to do that today. Thanks for looking out for that next generation. I'm voting for you!
You are the quintessential small business person!!

Great video Kathy! Hard to believe the camera was the size of a cell phone - great work, even better story! I wish they had technology for "scratch n stiff" or "taste and see"! I hope you get your "Just Desserts." Not only are you an excellent baker but you also have a great way with teaching and educating kids in your program, fun and yummy at the same time, it doesnt get better then that! Kathy (Miss Wolper!) was my third grade teacher. To this day, I can remember many of the lessons she taught me...including my first endeavour in the culinary arts. We made Irish Potatoes for St. Patrick's Day. I believe it is part of the foundation for my passion for creating delicious culinary dishes for my family and friends, today. My mother was never much of a baker so I credit Miss Wolper for instilling a love of learning and trying new recipes. She truly is an inspiration to all!
I'm not sure what that last comment is about. Sorry, folks! I've reported it.
Thanks to all who voted for me, and for all of your nice comments. I really appreciate it!!!

So inspiring. You've taken what you love to do and made it your career. Cooking and baking seems to be a dying art of the past. People seem satisfied with prepared foods. Teaching the next generation the goodness of homemade will insure the continuation of passion for good quality homemade baking. Great job, Kathy! I'm with you on this one.
Good luck.
I love to see people doing what they love. You inspire others to reach for their dreams.

I had to wipe away a tear! Great to see the solid family values.
So great to see all your fans, Kath. All the kudos are well-deserved. Hang in there!
Best of luck to you!
I was very impressed by Kathy's story. She's a true teacher at heart and it appears that she has followed that throughout her life. And, combining that with her life-long cooking passion truly makes for a perfect match. I was also inspired by how Kathy's family plays such an important role -- learning cooking from her Mother, her Father always smiling and encouraging, and the support of her siblings, nieces and nephews. It sounds like she has all the right "ingredients" to succeed!
cooking and baking are a dying art. Getting kids in the kitchen gives them life skills, from reading recipes, to using math, to possibly starting a career. Thanks for what you do, Kathy!
Nice work Kathy, keep going!
The kids at camp will always remember all of your fun food activities and delicious desserts you made with them! Great Job Kathy! Loved the video too!
The video and the words of Cathy are very inspiring and edifying. Since she loves her work, she can put all her heart and mind in what she does. She is the best person who deserves all the help and support for her franchise. Good luck and God's blessings.

We were so pleased with your cookies for Ken's graduation party last year. I will certainly use your talents again. Debbie
You did a great class with my Girl Scout troop. The girls had a great time learning how to make the candy roses.
Kathy came out for my daughter's sleep over bright and early in the morning and worked with them to make breakfast. They loved it and she also introduced them to different types of food like clotted cream and lemon curd.
Wonderful desserts, wonderful teacher, keep up the good work!!!
GREAT!! Cookies! Good luck!
GREAT!! Cookies! Good luck!
Finalist story from Kathy5:
Growing up, I didn’t expect to own a business. I thought, at first, that I’d marry and have a whole bunch of kids. Life had other plans for me. I went to school to be a teacher, began teaching elementary school – and loved it! But, I wanted more contact with adults.
I entered the business world and became a certified technical trainer–because I knew I was good at teaching. I took culinary classes for fun and realized I was good at cooking, too. Soon, I was baking treats for customers and co-workers. I enjoyed my job as a trainer and thought I’d retire from that job. Then, the company I worked for filed for bankruptcy, and I lost my job.
I used my severance package, MY “just desserts”, to begin Kathy’s Just Desserts. I’ve been in business for over seven years, and I LOVE what I do. Not only do I bake delicious sweets for my customers, but I have used my teaching skills to develop a series of culinary programs for children. My days as an elementary teacher served me well for planning lessons and relating to kids. My computer skills were put to use to build my website and create a brochure. It seems that all the jobs I’ve had prior to being in business led me to this point.
I have the kids I always wanted when I teach a candy making workshop for a Girl Scout troop, or conduct a culinary summer camp for kids at the local school, or entertain children at a candy making birthday party. At one day camp, “Hi Candy Lady” is the greeting I receive as I walk through the campgrounds. I teach kids the same way my mom taught me to cook and bake when I was a child. I get much satisfaction from what I do. It’s gratifying when I receive an email and photo from my “cooking kids” – showing them preparing recipes for their families - recipes that they learned from me!
Since I truly enjoy everything I do in my business, I can put in long hours, and, yes, I am weary when the day is over, but I am never tired of my business. I’ve been told by many that my enthusiasm for my business is contagious. Perhaps that is why so many people (little AND big!) I’ve met during this exciting adventure have been so helpful, generous with their time, and kind to refer me to others. My business is growing, and I’m looking to franchise my children’s programs throughout the country. I can’t WAIT for the next phase of Kathy’s Just Desserts! I want franchisees who have my same passion for cooking and love of children to reach many more kids than I ever could through the programs I’ve developed.
LOVE what you do, because you're going to spend a lot of time making your business a success. You might as well enjoy the ride!

What a wonderful story! Good Luck too!
